Niacinamide: what it does and the best ones in India

In short

What does niacinamide do?

Niacinamide supports your skin's protective barrier, which helps it hold on to moisture. Many people find it calms oil production, so pores look smaller and skin looks less shiny by afternoon. Over a few months, it can also help fade dull patches and marks, which is why it is so popular for Indian skin that tans and marks easily.

Who is it for?

Oily and combination skin love it most, but dry skin can use it too. If you are new to it, a 5% serum is plenty. 10% is common, but some people get mild redness at that strength. Always patch test behind your ear for two nights first.

How to use it

Morning or night: cleanser → niacinamide (2–3 drops) → moisturiser → sunscreen in the morning.
It works well alongside most products, including vitamin C, retinol and hyaluronic acid. Use it once a day to start, then twice if your skin is happy.

Our tip

The serum matters less than using it every single day. Most people stop after two weeks because they "don't see a difference". Stick with it for two months and take a photo at the start, so you can actually see the change.
